World Bicycle Day – Cycling Rally and Tournament
The district level celebrations commenced on 11th June 2026 with the observance of World Bicycle Day through a Cycling Rally and Cycling Tournament (Asmita Women's City League) organised at MGM Central School & Junior College, Kodumon by the Pathanamthitta District Cycling Association, in association with the District Olympic Association. The programme was inaugurated by Adv. C. V. Santhakumar, MLA, while the Cycling Rally was flagged off by Shri Anand R., IPS, Superintendent of Police, Pathanamthitta.
Olympic Flag Day
As part of the International Olympic Day celebrations, Olympic Flag Day was observed at Thiruvalla on 14th June 2026
District level Inauguration of Olympic Week and Deepashikha Rally
The District level inauguration of the Olympic Week celebrations was held at Thiruvalla on 16th June 2026. The celebrations were inaugurated by Shri Varghese Mamman, MLA, who highlighted the importance of sports in shaping disciplined, healthy and responsible citizens. The inaugural programme was followed by the Olympic Deepashikha (Torch) Rally, which spread the message of Olympism and encouraged greater public participation in sports and physical activity.
Painting Competition
To encourage creativity and enhance awareness of the Olympic Movement among school students, the Pathanamthitta District Table Tennis Association, in association with the Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association, organised a District level Painting Competition on the theme "Olympics." The competition was conducted for students in the Lower Primary (LP), Upper Primary (UP) and High School categories, with enthusiastic participation from schools across the district.The competition provided young students with an opportunity to express the Olympic ideals through art.
Quiz Competition and Olympic Awareness Programmes
As part of the district wide celebrations, Olympic Quiz Competitions and Awareness Programmes were organised in educational institutions to familiarise students with the history of the Olympic Games, Olympic values, prominent athletes and India's achievements in international sports.
District Karate and Wushu Tournaments
The District Karate Tournament and District Wushu Tournament were conducted on 20th June 2026 at the Pramadam Indoor Stadium as part of the International Olympic Day celebrations.
Olympic Day Basketball Carnival
The Pathanamthitta District Basketball Association, in association with the Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association, organised the Olympic Day Basketball Carnival at the St. Thomas Club Indoor Stadium, Niranam.
Olympic Forest – 2036 Tree Plantation Drive
As a significant environmental initiative under the International Olympic Day celebrations, the Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association launched the Olympic Forest campaign in support of India's vision to host the 2036 Olympic Games. The district level inauguration of the Drive was held at Harithashramam "Mannumaryada" Gurukulam, where renowned speed artist Dr. Jitheshji inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling. The programme was led by Shri R. Prasanna Kumar, Secretary, Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association, along with Shri Mathew T. Mathew and Shri P. K. Vijayakumar, Executive Committee members.
Netball Friendship Match
As a prelude to the International Olympic Day Rally in Pathanamthitta, a Senior Netball Friendship Match, organised by the Netball Association at St. John's Stadium, Eraviperoor, was inaugurated by Mr. K. Prakash Babu, President of the Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association
Olympic Rally Participation Promotion
To encourage maximum public participation in the International Olympic Day Rally, the Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association launched an extensive awareness campaign across the district. Educational institutions, affiliated sports associations, government departments and sports clubs were invited to actively participate in the Olympic Rally scheduled for 23rd June 2026.
International Olympic Day Rally
The International Olympic Day 2026 celebrations reached their grand culmination on 23rd June 2026 with a colourful Olympic Rally organised by the Pathanamthitta District Olympic Association, in association with the District Administration and the Pathanamthitta District Sports Council. The rally commenced at 10.30 a.m. from the Collectorate Junction, Pathanamthitta, and proceeded to the Municipal Open Stadium, with enthusiastic participation from students, athletes, coaches, physical education teachers, representatives of affiliated sports associations and members of the public.
